Travelling to Bhutan, Bhutan was closed to foreign travelers until 1974. In the first year when Bhutan opened up to tourism, just 287 tourists visited the country. In 2019 the amount had increased to 325,800 tourists visiting Bhutan.

Traveling to Bhutan is costly and not easily done unless you’re from a select few nations, including India. The distinctive Buddhist culture, unspoiled scenery, and fresh mountain air make it really worth it, however.

Everyone who travels to Bhutan needs a visa in advance, with the exception of passport holders from India, Bangladesh and the Maldives. Two national airlines currently operate their flights to Bhutan: Drukair and Bhutan Airlines.

Bhutan Visa

From 2020 June, visitors from India, Bangladesh and Maldives require a online permit booked through local Bhutanese travel agency. Bhutan Wonderland will answer all your queries on visa and permit requirements and assist you to process them right from the beginning.

After you send us your passport copies, we will then process your visa with the Tourism Council of Bhutan. You will have to make full payments before that including a $40 visa fee. Within 72 working hours, your visa will be processed. You will have to produce your visa clearance letter at the point of entry and your visa will be stamped on your passport.

Everyone traveling to Bhutan can either take direct flights to Bhutan from India, Nepal, Singapore, Bangkok or Dhaka or travel by road from Phuntsholing.

The country’s only international airport is located at Paro, and landing there is a thrilling encounter. Both landing and takeoff must be performed manually, and only eight pilots in the world are certified to land and takeoff from Paro International Airport.

There are currently just two airlines flying to Paro Airport.

Druk Air, the national airlines and the independently owned Bhutan Airlines.

Two airlines Now have flights to Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bagdogra, Guwahati & Gaya in India, Kathmandu, Bangkok, Dhaka & Singapore.

Flights to and from Paro are just permitted under visual meteorological conditions and therefore are limited to daylight hours from dawn to sunset, so delays are extremely common.

If flying isn’t feasible, Bhutan has three land border crossings with India, Phuntsholing from the west, Gelephu at the central place and Samdrup Jongkhar from the east.

There are NO open boundaries between Bhutan and China.

Bhutan Travelers Story

Fantastic Bhutan Vacation Experience

Totally loved the short 3 days Thimphu, Paro experience. Highlight of it is the hiking to Tigers Nest. What spectacular experience it is. Drukson was so helpful from the start. Planning for it, communication throughout, arranging everything, etc. He’s an expert in foreign tourists arrangements. Also kudos to our guide Niwas, Driver Kinley for takings us around everywhere.
